Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) HikeJoin us for one or more scenic loop hikes at The PEEC !
Your choice to hike 6 miles (B+ Rating) or as many as 12 (D+ Rating). Trails are all loops that offer either scenic vistas, waterfalls or stands of old hemlocks, hickory and oak. To learn more about the PEEC, please visit: www.PEEC.org.

IRT HISTORICAL HIKEAllow 3 hours at a leisurely pace with occasional stops to view buildings, historical sites and landmarks. Bring water, camera and binoculars.
The IRT traverses the sites of the first anthracite fueled iron company and the first Portland cement company in America, both of which contributed to the Industrial Revolution. 23 historical sites and landmarks will be presented. The trail is a loop with an even surface of asphalt or packed millings and passes through several communities.

Circle Hike to Mt TammanyPre-St Patrick's day hike. D W Gap in New Jersey circle hike to Mt Tammany on red dot trail, fire road, blue trail and AT.
Deep snow requires snow shoes. Bring lunch and plenty of water. No low shoes or sneakers. This is not a beginner's hike. Bring a dry top clothing change for change at top of climb.

Hike in the Park & ConcertWe will hike in Trexler Park & hear a concert in Allentown Symphony Hall
We will meet and hike in the park and at 3 PM we will hear a symphony concert(guitar soloist) and see fellow hiker Mercedes in the cello section. We will be ushered by our leader Ron Kieffer and our co-leader is Mercedes. Hikers will get 10% discount off tickets, cost $18.00. The concert will be about 2 hours. We can eat after the program at the Allentown Brew Works. Call Mercedes, 484-515-8001, for details and to reserve tickets.

Big Pocono State Park & State Game Land 38Early Spring 7 Mile Hike in Big Pocono State Park followed by an optional 5 Mile Hike in State Game Land 38
We’ll begin near the summit on the Power Line Trail in SGL 38 followed by Big Pocono’s South and Indian Trails. We’ll have lunch at the summit and return via the Vista and South Trails for a total of 7 miles (B Rating). Option to hike another 5 miles in adjacent SGL 38 to Deep Lake and Wolf Swamp via the Falls and Jeep Trails (D+ Rating). Varied mix of terrain and views. Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring a minimum of 2 quarts of water, lunch and snacks. Rain may cancel or delay. Day Hike AT - AshfieldAT hike north from Ashfield Rd on blue trails and return on AT.
This section is rocky in places with some great views. In case of bad weather call leader as Ashfield Rd has no winter maintenance. We may hike elsewwhere if road is closed.

Trail WorkWe have made slow progress working on the Chestnut Oak Trail.
This is due to the fact that evenings leave us little time to do actual work. We do not have that much more of the trail to do so lets show up and finish this nice trail. Please bring gloves and Water. Lunch will be provided. If the weather is a factor we will reschedule. Please call me or email me so that I know the number of people coming.

Ironton Rails Trail Bike RideIronton Rails Trail, Whitehall, PA
Bike several laps on the Ironton Rails Trail loop (5 mile loop) and the extension thru Whitehall Parkway (4 miles round trip). Riders can choose to ride 10 miles, 19 miles or the full 24 miles. Helmets, snacks, and water are required.
The bike hike will begin at the main IRT Trailhead off of PA 145 (1/4 mile East of Sheetz) on Chestnut St. in Whitehall PA. Bikes should be capable of riding on some rough surfaces (street bikes can be used although there are some rough surfaces and gravel trails). This will be a moderate paced ride 9-11 mph on the Ironton Trail. We will begin by taking two loops on the IRT (10 miles). People wishing to drop out after the first 10 miles can do so at the break. The second leg of the bike hike is 9 miles. We will head West on the extension thru the Whitehall Parkway and return by completing one more loop on the Ironton Trail (9 miles round trip). Anyone wishing to continue on with the group leader for an additional 5 mile ride on the loop can do so completing 24 miles total.
Rain or extreme cold cancels. Registration is required for this trip and you must confirm your attendance by email to Lschaedel@verizon.net.
