Weekend of hiking in the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area of WV.Hike 10 miles on Saturday and 7.5 miles on Sunday in the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area of West Virginia - THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL.
Sat 05/03/2008: Dolly Sods Loop hike of 10 miles in the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area of West Virginia. More than 2000 ft of total climbing on this hike. We will start on the East end of the park for this 10 mile Circuit Hike.
Sun 05/04/2008: Dolly Sods Loop hike of 7.5 miles. Approx 2000 ft of elevation gain. This 7.5 mile Circuit Hike will take us on a Strenuous climb.
Sturdy hiking boots, water and a lunch is required for both hikes. These hikes are scouting hikes as the leader has not done them. The trails do not have blazes and signs are not being replaced as they become damaged. For this reason allow for the possibility of changes in the hikes. Please expect to be screened if you have not previously hiked with Al. Due to cabin limitations, group size has been limited to 14 people. We will drive to WV Friday afternoon. Expect to hike with Allentown Hiking Club members and AMC members. Contact leader for more details.

Circuit Hike at Big Pocono State Park/Camelback MountainHike a series of trails from the base of Big Pocono if parking permits; otherwise we’ll start at or near the summit.
We’ll also walk a level 1.4 mile loop around the 2,131 foot summit which offers terrific 360 degree views of the Valley, NJ and the Delaware Water Gap. Nice mix of terrain including a moderate to steep 1,200 foot ascent within 1.5 miles of the summit. Depending on where we start, we’ll either break for lunch or snacks at the summit where there are picnic tables and rest rooms. Dress appropriately as summit temperatures can be 10 degrees cooler than the Valley. Wear sturdy shoes, bring plenty of water, lunch, snacks and camera. No Pets. Rain cancels. Meet 9:00 A.M. at McDonalds in Wind Gap, PA

Boy Scout JAMBO at Kutztown UniversityThe Allentown Hiking Club is sponsoring a hiking and backpacking booth at this regional scouting event.
Over 6,000 Scouts (age 6-21) and leaders attended the last JAMBO and our booth is sure to be popular. We need club members to staff the booth and help conduct short demonstrations during the day (packing a backpack, what to put in your day pack, how to erect a tent, backpack cooking, etc.) Come share your knowledge about and enthusiasm for hiking. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the next generation of hikers. We hope to schedule 1 or 2 hour shifts so club members will have time to explore the other 99 booths at the event. Call 610-262-6977 or email leader to volunteer or if you want more information.
