Lehigh Gorge - Glen Onoko to Whitehaven Bike HikeBike the Lengh of the Lehigh Gorge Trail from Glen Onoko to Whitehaven and return for a total of 46 miles.
Helmets, lunch, and water are required. Bikes should be capable of riding on crushed surface(street bikes not recommended).
The hike will begin at the furtherest parking lot when entering Lehigh Gorge State Park - Glen Onoko access point(first parking area that you come to). We will take a comfortable ride of 9-11 mph to Penn Junction, take a short break and continue on to Rockport. After a short break we will continue on to Whitehaven for the last 10 miles and have pizza and ice cream in Whitehaven. Drop out points are available at 5 miles(Penn Junction) and 13 miles(Rockport). Directions and info about the park can be found on http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/lehighgorge.aspx. Registration is not required for this trip. Whip-Poor-Will HikeHike from Osprey House and down Translator Lane.
We will hike via the LNE trail, Prairie Grass trail, Charcoal trail, and the blue trail of the AT, then down Translator Lane. At the towers we will wait until dark and attempt to listen for the call of a Whip-Poor-Will. A flashlight is essential. A hiking stick is suggested because Translator lane is very steep, eroded and gravelly. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a bottle of water. Binoculars may be useful. This hike will be interpreted by Bob Hoopes and Dan Kunkle from the Nature Center. The hike will require a car shuttle - meet at Osprey House, at Lehigh Gap Nature Center.

Bake Oven Knob to Lehigh GapHike Bake Oven Knob to Lehigh Gap along the AT. Exit the AT twice for nice views and some rock climbing.
Hike 11 miles from Bake Oven Knob to the Lehigh Gap, one of the nicer hikes in Pa. with a wonderful vista at Bake Oven Knob. This is an AT hike with some rock scrambling. We will take two side trails during the hike. The first will be a scenic bypass along the top of the ridge for about a mile. Later, we again exit the AT to hike the North Trail which yields wonderful views including the towns of Palmerton, Bowmanstown, and Lehighton. Optional pizza stop after the hike. Meet 8:30 at the Days Inn parking lot, located at the intersection of Rt. 22 and Rt. 309 N, 1/4 mile east of the Lehigh Valley interchange of the Northeast extension of the turnpike, or meet at the Lehigh Gap parking lot at 9:30. The lot is located east of Rt. 248 via a short dirt road, and just south of Rt. 873.

Lehigh Canal & Palmer Trail Bike HikeBike the length of the Lehigh Canal east to Easton, a section of the Palmer Trail, and the Lehigh Canal west to Allentown for a total of 34 miles at a comfortable pace.
Helmets, lunch, and water are required. Bikes should be capable of some rough surfaces(no street bikes).
The hike will begin at the Main Street Depot parking lot entrance to Sand Island in Bethlehem. This will be a moderate paced ride 9-11 mph on the Lehigh Canal east to the end, returning to Palmer Township boat launch and heading up the Palmer Trail. We will return back to the Palmer Township launch and head back to Sand Island. The first leg of the hike is 24 miles. People wishing to drop out can do so here. After lunch back at Sand Island, we will head west to Allentown and return for another 10 miles round trip. Directions and information can be found at http://www.wildlandspa.org/lrwt/sandislandbethlehem_info.hmtl. Registration is not required for this trip. Hiking 13 miles along the AT from Rt 309 to Hawk Mountain on Friday, the July 4th Holiday. The hike will end early enough for those who are going to events later in the afternoon. For those who have not made firm plans, one of the hikers attending the event, lives near where we are hiking and has graciously invited us back for a post hike dinner at her house. Group size will be limited. Registration Required.
