Section 2 - Lower Pine Rd. to Warwick County Park

About half of this section will be on narrow, hilly, scenic back roads through Chester County horse country. Trails passes historic Fink truss bridge built in 1847. About two miles from the end of the hike, there will be a "wet foot" creek crossing (which can be bypassed with a detour which adds a mile to the hiking distance).

The Lehigh Valley Trail Tenders, the volunteers of the D&L Nat'l Heritage Corridor, are sponsoring a new community event in Bethlehem on this National Trails Day.

"Travel the Towpath", a celebration of Bethlehem's most popular trail, the Lehigh Canal Towpath, aka the D&L Trail, will take place along more than two miles of this historic trail. This will be an opportunity for the public to form a better appreciation of the trail's history, ecology and recreational opportunities.

Annual Hike With Lehigh Gap Nature Center

Start hiking from Osprey House then several trails including the LNE, Prarie Grass, Charcoal, and the Blue Trail of the AT, then down Translator Lane. At the towers we will wait until dark and attempt to listen for the call of a Whip-Poor-Will. A flashlight is essential. A hiking stick is also suggested because Translator Lane is very steep and eroded. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a bottle of water. This hike will be interpreted by Dan Kunkle or Bob Hoops from the Nature Center. This hike will have a car shuttle.

It appears that the construction of new trails is completed. However there will always be work to be done. We will be working on the slope of the Prairie Grass Trail near the LNE. This is part of a very nice network of trails that have been developed at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center.

Loop Hike including stops at the Pulpit and Pinnacle Overlook via the Appalachian Trail.

Scenic Loop Hike. Uphill climb on the Appalachian Trail to the Pulpit Rock Overlook. Continue on to the Pinnacle Overlook. Dirt road walk along AT pass the Helicopter pad and continuing another mile. Finish the loop walking downhill passing the Hamburg Reservoir. We will take a lunch break at the Pinnacle. Optional pizza stop after the hike. Hikers new to the group will be screened. Directions: I-78 N towards Allentown to Lehigh St and north to Downeyflake Lane(1st light). Right to South 12th St, right at the light, left at end onto Emmaus Ave. Follow Emmaus Ave to Honeysuckle Rd, turn right at Salisbury Fire Company(Honeysuckle Rd), turn left onto Black River Rd. Franco Park is 1/4 mile on the left.
