D & L Trail HikeHike from Sand Island east on the D&L Trail (Lehigh Canal) to Freemansburg and return.
For 100 years the Lehigh Canal moved coal from Jim Thorpe south to fuel industries and heat homes. Now the towpath is a recreational resource. From Sand Island, we will head east to Freemansburg and enjoy views of the Lehigh River, with a glimpse of the site of Bethlehem Steel, and then retrace our route back to our cars. Bring water and a snack. Heavy rain cancels.

Meeting place: From center city Bethlehem, drive south on Main Street, crossing over the Lehigh Canal onto Sand Island. Turn left, pass the Ice House, and park in the lot.

July Monthly Meeting and Potluck Picnic at Franco ParkIt's that time again for our annual summer potluck picnic. As was last year, the date has been changed from the 1st Wednesday in July to the following Wednesday, July 10.
The club will provide hot dogs and drinks. We ask our members to bring a favorite dish to share with the group. No need to call about what to bring. We always get a variety of tasty dishes which, in turn, becomes a grand feast. DIRECTIONS: I-78 towards Allentown to Lehigh St. and north to Downyflake Lane (1st light) and turn right. Proceed to S. 12th St. and turn right. Continue to next light which is Emaus Ave. Turn left on to Emaus Ave. and continue to Honeysuckle Rd. Turn right at Salisbury Fire Co. (Honeysuckle Rd), left onto Black River Rd. Franco Park is 1/4 mile on the left.

Walnutport Canal HikeHike the Lehigh Canal north and south of Walnutport.
The Walnutport Canal Association maintains sections of the Lehigh Canal north and south of town. We will first hike north to Lehigh Gap to see the gap from river level and then retrace our steps to Walnutpot. We will continue south past the Locktender's House (built about 1828, one of two original houses remaining) and Lock 23, and enjoy the views before returning to our cars. Bring water and a snack. Heavy rain cancels.

Meeting place: From Allentown, head north on PA 145 about 13 miles to Walnutport. Turn left onto Main Street (at the McDonalds), follow this across the Lehigh River, and immediately turn left into the D&L Trail parking lot.

Seven Tubs Natural Area Hike/SwimHike/swim, check out chutes, drops and pools of the Seven Tubs Natural Area.
We'll warm up with a short hike, then descent into the cool microclimate of Wheelbarrow Run. Another trail will lead to a streamside lunch stop, then it's off to a sunny swimming hole before returning to our cars. Wear a swimsuit or something you don't mind getting wet. Bring lunch, liquids, sunscreen and a change of clothes.

Lehigh Parkway HikeHike along the Little Lehigh Creek in an Allentown city park.
We will enjoy the beauty of one of Allentown's parks, starting near the Fish Hatchery and following the trail along the south side of the creek, and passing Bogert's Covered Bridge. At the North Bridge, we will cross the creek and return along the north side to our cars. Bring water and a snack. Heavy rain cancels.
