We will start at the Fish Hatchery parking lot and walk to the Museum of Indian Culture. After that we will walk along the parkway for a mile or 2 depending on the group and finish at the Trout Hatchery. Bring a snack or lunch for a picnic afterwards. Enjoy a walk and Bach concert in Allentown.

We will meet at Trout Hall to begin our downtown Allentown walk. The route is flexible, but will include the Arts Walk, new Center City developments, Zion Church (where the Liberty Bell was hidden during the Revolution), the Post Office, and, if time permits, West Park and Millionaire's Row. We will conclude the walk at 11:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, a church built in the form of a medieval cathedral, where the Bach Choir of Bethlehem is offering a Bach at Noon concert (free, donations appreciated). The program includes the Concerto in A Major, BWV 1055, with 12 year old Kristina Moditch, pianist, and Cantata 80, “Ein’ feste Burg ist unser Gott” in observance of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Bring water. This walk is on city sidewalks.

A hike through the wilds of the Trexler Game Preserve

UPDATE: I've been made aware (thanks, Kerry!) that there is a significant project underway to remove invasive growth throughout the park and while trails are still passable they are also littered with small branches and debris. Please be aware of this as you consider your participation in this hike. You can reference the park website for additional information: https://www.lehighcounty.org/Community/Trexler-Nature-Preserve/Our-Progress/Invasive-Plant-Removal. This loop hike will explore the northern portions of the Game Preserve, beginning at the Trexler Environmental Center, following the Border Trail through the Central Range to the North Range, then taking a variety of trails to explore the lesser-traveled sections of the park, returning to the Central Range and concluding on several trails that run along the Jordan Creek. There will be several long, steep climbs, multiple scenic overlooks, and likely buffalo and elk sightings. Early bailout options will be available. Wear sturdy hiking boots and bring at least 2 liters of water, lunch and snacks. Rain cancels.

Bring your Kayak and join us for a 2 - 3 hour Paddle

Let's all meet at this one hundred seventeen acre lake and paddle on a Sunday afternoon. Make sure your boat is registered or you have a valid launch permit. Bring a lunch or snack to eat on the lake; maybe a stop for ice cream on the way home. If you do not have a kayak, you can rent from Leaser Lake Boats, Bikes and Bait. (484) 221-1522. It is normally $35 for two hours but they are offering a 20% discount for Allentown Hiking Club members. They will deliver they kayak right to the lake. Heavy rain or thunderstorms cancel.

Join us for a 2 1/2 - 3 mile walk around the park and ballfields in Quakertown

We'll meet at 6:00 pm and walk for about an hour. We can even walk into town and grab some ice cream at Rosemarie's Italian Ice. Afterward if you are interested, QNB will be holding their annual QNB Founders’ Day Band Concert from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the park. Bring a chair and/or blanket if you are planning to stay for the concert. We will meet by the bathrooms/snack bar area at the Park at 4th (behind the library; turn at 4th and Mill Streets. Easy walk on a local rail trail.

We will hike the newest section of this rail trail from the North Whitehall Municipal Building eastward to Whitehall Township and then walk back to our cars. The North Whitehall section is gravel and the Whitehall section is paved. Bring water and snacks. Heavy or steady rain cancels, but light or intermittent rain is OK (bring an umbrella if you wish). No calls on day of hike.

Meeting place: 1. Directions from south or south west: get to PA 248 past Slatington and make a right onto US 209 north. Just before you go under the turnpike bridges, make a left onto Harrity Rd, and then before you pass the P.J. Whelihans, make a right onto Pohopoco Rd. It's 7 more miles to the Wild Creek Trail head on the right. 2. Directions from the east or south east: take US 209 South and then make a right onto Trachsville Hill Rd for 1.3 mi. At the SS, turn left on Pohopoco Rd for 1 mi. The Wild Creek Trail Head will be on your left. 3. Directions from I-476 (PA Tpk): Get off at the US209/Mahoning Valley exit #74. DO NOT take the ramp labeled US 209 North. If you do, you cannot make the left onto Harrity. You have to take the US 209 South Ramp to the left and keep left at the bottom of the ramp to the Stop Sign and make a left onto US 209 North.
