Old Timers Long Walk Series, No.3Lehigh County 2nd newest park - Overlook?
7:07pm - This short walk will be to Lehigh County's second newest park. Overlook? Direction - take I-78 to Summit Lawn Exit, turn left onto Rock Rd and cross Route 145. Look for WFMZ towers. Right there is a small parking area. That's where we will be meeting at 7:07pm. We will take a very short walk to the overlook and nosey around the Lehigh Valley Amateur Astronomical Society's observatories. They will not be open that night as it will not be dark yet.
However, you can make arrangements by calling them and come back later. Always leave them wanting more, not less! While you are there make arrangements to go to the field meet at Pulpit Rock (by invitation only). It used to be that the star party on Rock Rd was on Saturday night when the moon was the fullest and the field meet was the Saturday night when the moon was the weakest. Please call LVAS as things tend to change!

Hike to the Pulpit and Pinnacle under the Full Sturgeon Moon (9 miles)Watch the full moon rise from the Pinnacle
Please arrive by 4:45pm for a prompt 5:00pm departure. As we will need to make it up to the Pinnacle by sunset, the group will leave on time. Please plan accordingly.
Come and watch the full moon rise from the Pinnacle! August’s Full Moon, the Full Sturgeon Moon, is named for the giant lake sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain. This native freshwater fish was readily caught during this part of summer and an important food staple for Native Americans who lived in the region.
This is a 9 mile loop hike, starting at the Hamburg Reservoir parking lot and then going up to the Pulpit and Pinnacle for spectacular views of the rising full moon. Sunset is at 7:55pm and moonrise is at 8:13pm.
This is not a beginner's hike due to the ~1200' ascent, rocky terrain and nighttime conditions. Sturdy hiking boots are recommended. Bring a headlamp or flashlight, at least 2 liters of water and food/snacks. Also bring extra layers for when we are sitting at the Pinnacle waiting for the full moon to rise. Rain or cloudy conditions may cancel.
