Monthly meeting of the Allenown Hiking Club at St Timothy's Lutheran Church, 140 South Ott St, Allentown, Pa.

This will be a business meeeting, a break for refreshments, and a presentation by Jennifer Detweiler. Jennifer was 2007's Hawk monitor at Bake Oven Knob. Her presentation will be on Birding and Hawk monitoring.

Enjoy an autumn hike at Big Pocono State Park and State game Land 38.

Revised Hike Listing 10/3/08: Hike a series of trails and walk the level perimeter road around Big Pocono’s 2,131 foot peak. We’ll enjoy lunch at the summit’s picnic area which offers nice views and restrooms. The revised hike will have minimal elevation change equal to aprox 250 feet. Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring a minimum of 2 quarts of water, lunch and snacks. Rain may cancel or delay. Accompany members of the Ironton Rail Trail Oversight Commission as they conduct an interpretive hike along this multi-use loop trail.

We'll learn how coal, iron and limestone helped start the industrial revolution in America right here in the Lehigh Valley. There is no formal lunch stop, so bring a drink and some easy to eat snacks. Contact is Gene Scharle.

Return to Lehigh Gorge for lock stabilization efforts and vegetation clearing.

This time we'll be working on Lock #28 at White Haven. Wear long sleeves, long pants and waterproof footwear if possible, and bring gloves and hand tools. Hike several trails at Lehigh Gap Nature Center.

We will hike two new trails the Prarie Grass trail and the Chestnut Oak trail. The Chestnut Oak trail is only partially completed so be prepared to do some bushwacking. We will then loop back to the starting point on either the LNE trail or the D&L Rail to Trail. Please bring water and a lunch. Meet at Osprey House at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center.

Hike from Little Gap Rd by Weathering Knob, Goose Knob, Delps Trail to Smith Gap Rd. There will be some rocks to climb over leaving Little Gap and some good views of Aquashicola Creek.
