Plainfield Rail TrailHike the southern end of this Northampton County Rail Trail.
From 1880 until well into the 20th century, Bangor and Portland Railway steam locomotives plied this rail corridor in Plainfield Township, providing essential transportation services for the nearby quarries. Conrail bought the line in 1976 and closed it five years later. The township then bought the corridor and built the rail-trail. We will hike from the southern trailhead north 3 miles and then return to our cars. Features of the trail include five crossings of the Bushkill Creek on wooden bridges and rural scenery. Bring water and a snack. Heavy rain cancels.
