Urban Assault Bike Ride
Ride 20 miles on the Bethlehem Greenway and the Saucon Rail Trail for the first leg of the ride. Ride the Lehigh Canal for 24 miles to Easton for the second leg of the ride. The ride leaves at 9:30 am sharp from Sand Island. Riders must have mountain bikes or hybrid bikes. The ride is a moderate paced ride at 10-13 mph. Meet at 9:15 at Sand Island in Bethlehem in the large parking lot before going across bridge into Sand Island. Registration is limited to 10 riders.
Urban Assault Ride - Bethlehem Greenway, Saucon Valley Rail Trail and Lehigh Canal Bike Hike Start time – Saturday Mileage – First leg 20 miles with option to continue to 44 miles The first leg of this leg begins at Sand Island. Bikes should be capable of some rough surfaces (no street bikes). Mountain bikes or hybrids are best for this leg of the ride. We will head to the Bethlehem Greenway trail by crossing the Fahy Bridge. The ride proceeds for the length of the Greenway trail and heads to Saucon Park in Hellertown. We will ride some back roads thru Saucon Park and Hellertown until we reach to Saucon Valley Rail Trail. After riding the length of the Saucon Valley Rail Trail we’ll return to Sand Island passing thru the old Bethlehem Steel site now Steel Stacks. This ride will conclude around 12:00 noon and will be around 20 miles. The second leg will take us along the Lehigh Canal east to Easton. Bikes should be capable of some rough surfaces (no street bikes). Mountain bikes or hybrids are best for this leg of the ride. We will ride the length of the Lehigh Canal to Easton and return. This leg of the ride is around 24 miles. The hike will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. at the Main Street Depot parking lot entrance to Sand Island in Bethlehem. This will be a moderate paced ride 10-12 mph. • Confirmation of participation is required. Riders are responsible to arrive with bikes in good repair with tires properly inflated and must have helmuts, tire pump, spare tube and tire repair kit, snacks and water bottles. A cell phone is also recommended. Each rider is responsible for their own health and safety. Riders that stray away from the group without notifying the ride leader are own their own to get back to their vehicles. Riders are responsible for their own break downs.
